Marblehead……

George Miller Breed, age 87, husband of the late Virginia (Hillery) of Marblehead, died peacefully at home, early Saturday morning August 25, 2012.

Born in Boston, the son of the late Harlan and Catherine (Miller) Breed, he was raised in Swampscott. He was appointed to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York, which he attended until joining the United States Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific.

Upon discharge, he began what would become a longtime career in sales throughout the greater Boston area. During his life he had been an avid skier, a competitive swimmer and a member of the Beach Club in Swampscott, a boater and frostbite sailor. He was an active member of the Mason’s Philanthropic Lodge of Marblehead and Salem. Most of all he enjoyed his family. He will be remembered for his great cooking and wonderful sense of humor.

Mr. Breed is survived by his two children; Peter Breed and his wife Debra of Atkinson, NH and Hillery Shinn and her husband Robert of Hampton, NH; four grandchildren Sarah and Catherine Shinn and Andrew and Jonathan Breed. He is also survived by his much loved companion of 20 years Sara (Clark) Bruins and her children Briggs Clark of Littleton, NH, Charles Clark and his wife Gail, Jeffrey Clark and Bradley Clark all of Marblehead and their children Emily, Jessica, Kristen, Kelly, Jennifer, Nathaniel and Tyler. He was predeceased by his brother, Harlan Breed, Jr.
